A tiny wombat joey has been saved after being found alive in the pouch of its dead mother following a vehicle strike. TWRC volunteers were dispatched to the roadside, where they successfully performed a delicate rescue operation.

The joey, now receiving expert care, is demonstrating a resilient spirit. Such rescues highlight the importance of motorists stopping to check pouches of deceased marsupials—a simple act that can save lives.

TWRC continues to urge the public to report any injured or orphaned wildlife immediately to our hotline. Your vigilance in Tasmania's wildlife corridors remains our best defensive line.
